Matt Emmons

Full-stack software engineer

About

Hi! I'm Matt. I am a software developer from Toronto. Originally self-taught, I first learned VisualBasic to automate common tasks in Excel when I was working a corporate bank job. That opened up a whole new world for me - I continued this journey with Ruby on Rails and eventually decided to return to school to get an undergrad and masters degree in Computer Science from Trent University.

I specialize in full stack web development and ML-adjacent development. In past roles I have focused on the intersection between machine learning and software engineering, creating frameworks and infrastructure around machine learning models to reduce model degradation and time-to-inference while increasing accuracy and understandability.

Interests

I'm an avid cyclist and rock climber. I also dabble in photography and functional programming. I'm keenly interested in the value of functional programming as a tool to increase reliability of programs, boost programmer productivity and ultimately provide greater business value.
